What is a Handicapper?
A sports handicapper by definition is a person or group of individuals who predict the winners in a contest or sports event, “handicapping” is the practice of finding an advantage through information, knowledge, and data in order to increase the chances of winning. These advantages allow Handicappers to use this information to either sell or wager for a profit. Handicappers who sell their picks are referred to in the sports betting community as “touts.” While we hold free handicappers in high regards, we must also understand these handicappers put in a lot of work DAILY to be able to deliver a profitable service in hopes for returning customers. HOWEVER… there are good handicappers, bad handicappers and just plain out scams.
Should I use a Handicapper?
I want to start of by saying this is solely one contributors opinion. If you have a handicapper that wins you money, that is amazing and you should probably share that with our community. However, in my opinion Sports Betting for a profit is ultimately very difficult, and using a professional handicapper sometimes takes out the fun of what sports betting really is… entertainment! While the point is to obviously make money, just blindly following someone takes some of the fun away from researching a game and being right!… or wrong.
Some GREAT handicappers are free! The best I have seen in my life started off giving out picks for free before going tout. Good handicappers are followed and mostly have positive interactions with their followers which results in growing among the betting community to the point where they can charge for picks and the community backs them long-term.
Handicapping the Handicapper
As explained before handicapping is the practice of finding an advantage through information, knowledge, and data in order to increase the chances of winning. So why would you not do the same when choosing a handicapper? Doing due diligence is key with any financial decision in life. Researching a handicappers past results current win streaks, and rate of return per subscription period. Handicapper cost should always be analyzed when trying to choose the correct handicapper.
Always ask what happens if a subscription package losses! While some will simply extend you past your subscription expiration date, good handicappers will go as far as giving a full refund for their services. This is important because even proven handicappers with years of experience go on dry streaks and lose money.
“What if I prefer for someone to just give me a pick instead of doing the research?”
This is a valid question and is one of the reasons I would ever recommend a Handicapper. I repeat SPORTS BETTING IS ENTERTAINMENT and if all you want is to have a pick and feel like it has some research behind it, without any of the work to give yourself some skin in the game… that is fine! We have a recommended handicapper below and hope you enjoy the games! good luck!
