The Madness has officially begun, 11 teams have officially punched their ticket to the big dance with the presumed number 1 overall seed in Gonzaga punching their ticket last night in a hard fought game against BYU. As I touched on in the last blog post, this year has been weird to say the least with multiple teams dealing with late starts and mid-season halts due to COVID-19. Alas, we are here in March and all the major conference tournaments should be starting today! Last night we dabbled in some of the mid major tournaments, going 1-2 or -2 units due to a 2 unit loss on NDSU -1 last night. They looked dead in the water from the beginning only to lose in the last seconds in heart breaking fashion! So far we are 2-3 ATS (-2 units) and 1-0 in Parlays for .7u which takes us to -1.3 units on plays tracked.
Today we’re getting started in the ACC Tournament with Syracuse -3 (1 Unit) against NC. State. In their two matchups this year, ‘Cuse has gone 2-0 with the last game being decided by 3 points. Both teams are in good form with ‘Cuse coming in on a 2 game win streak & their opponent being winners of 5 in a row. As of this writing, ‘Cuse is currently taking in 43% of the tickets and 62% of the bets leading us to believe their might be some sharp/big money action on their side. I also think the analytics slightly favor the Orangemen in this one as they’ve consistently done a good job of packing the paint on opponents this year boasting a 14% block percentage which is good for 14th in the nation according to KenPom. ‘Cuse should make things difficult in the paint and force NC State to rely on the 3-pointer to win this one. ‘Cuse should have more scoring options as well with 5 players averaging close to double figures. Lay the bucket with the Orangemen who also find themselves on the bubble coming into this one with a victory or two needed in the tourney to solidify their spot in the Big Dance.
UTSA -5, a few things to get out of the way here. I like this game as a money-line parlay piece and I also graduated from UTSA a few years ago. We find ourselves in the C-USA tournament with a UTSA team that is hitting their stride at the right time winning 9/11 versus a Charlotte team that is reeling with 8 losses in a row by an average of close to 14 points. UTSA also brings the best player to the matchup in Jhivvan Jackson who is averaging close to 21 PPG coming into the matchup. As of this writing, UTSA Is only getting 9% of the tickets but have taken in 82% of the money thus far. I think the analytics favor the Roadrunners here also as Charlotte offers little to no resistance in the paint, an area where UTSA loves to operate with 53% of their points coming from the 2 pointer.
